The GE GDT535PSJSS is a smart, WiFi-connected built-in dishwasher with hidden top controls, a third rack, bottle jets, the Piranha hard food disposer and Dry Boost with fan assist. The GDT635HSRSS beside it is a top-control model with a stainless steel interior door, a Sanitize cycle, Dry Boost and ENERGY STAR qualification, but no WiFi on its model page. Choose the GDT535PSJSS if you want hidden controls, a third rack and app connectivity, and the GDT635HSRSS if you want a visible control panel and a Sanitize cycle. This guide compares those two and places the GDT650SYVFS, GDT670SGVWW and discontinued GDT655SSJSS around them.
What is the difference between the GE GDT535PSJSS and GDT635HSRSS?
Four things separate them. The first is the controls: the GDT535PSJSS hides its controls along the top edge of the door, so the front is a clean panel, while the GDT635HSRSS has a visible top control panel. The second is connectivity: the GDT535PSJSS is the WiFi-connected model, and the GDT635HSRSS does not list WiFi. The third is the racks and washing hardware: the GDT535PSJSS lists a third rack and the Piranha hard food disposer, while the GDT635HSRSS lists a stainless steel interior door. The fourth is the Sanitize cycle, which appears on the GDT635HSRSS and not on the GDT535PSJSS’s feature list.
What they share is the washing base: both have bottle jets and Dry Boost with fan assist, and both are tall-tub GE dishwashers that use the same drain and fill diagnostics. In everyday use the cleaning results depend more on loading and filter care than on which of the two you buy. Our guide to the GE dishwasher Sanitize cycle explains what that cycle does and when it is worth using.
What do Piranha, bottle jets, Dry Boost and the third rack mean?
- Piranha hard food disposer. A built-in disposer that breaks up food particles so they do not collect in the filter. It is why some GE dishwashers can handle less pre-scraping, though large bones and seeds still need to be scraped.
- Bottle jets. Water jets positioned to spray into tall, narrow items such as bottles and sports cups on the upper rack.
- Dry Boost with fan assist. A drying option that adds heat and a fan to move moist air out of the tub. Our model pages note that the fan-assist module can be the source of a wet-dishes complaint, separate from the water-temperature checks.
- Third rack. A shallow tray above the upper rack, meant for utensils and flat items, which frees room in the baskets below.

Is the smart WiFi on the GDT535PSJSS worth it?
It depends on how you live. WiFi lets the dishwasher report its status to a phone and can start or monitor a cycle remotely. It does not change how well it washes, and our model page notes that the WiFi module rarely causes a wash-performance complaint. Connection problems are far more often a home network issue than an appliance fault, and our GE appliance WiFi guide explains what to try. If you do not want the app, the GDT635HSRSS gives up connectivity but adds a visible control panel and the Sanitize cycle.
What do the GE dishwasher codes mean on these models?
Whichever model you choose, the same code family applies. The meanings below come from the matching pages on this site.
For the detail behind each, read our guides to the C2, C4, C5 and C8 codes, the C1 code and the C6 and C7 codes. The Sanitize and Dry Boost features raise the demand on the heater and the temperature sensor, so C6 and C7 are worth knowing about if you use them often.
Is the discontinued GDT655SSJSS still worth buying used?
It can be. The GDT655SSJSS is a discontinued hidden-control model with a stainless interior, a third rack, bottle jets and the Piranha disposer, and we still service it. Our model page notes two codes common on this generation: a C4, which usually means a stuck float switch, and a C5, which points to a wash cycle that pumps out too quickly. Before buying a used one, ask when it was made, run a cycle and watch it drain, and check the filter and the door gasket. A well-kept one is a good dishwasher, but prices on used appliances should reflect that you are inheriting its age.
Which one should you choose?
- GDT535PSJSS if you want hidden controls, a third rack, the disposer and WiFi.
- GDT635HSRSS if you want a Sanitize cycle, visible controls and an ENERGY STAR model without the app.
- GDT650SYVFS if you want a fingerprint resistant finish with Sanitize and a third rack together.
- GDT670SGVWW if you want a white dishwasher with Sanitize and the disposer.
