How a GE dishwasher reports a fault
GE dishwashers display GE’s own published “C” and letter codes on the control panel.
GE’s documented dishwasher codes
C1 means draining is taking more than two minutes — a partial restriction. C2 means the full pump-out is taking more than seven minutes — a blocked drain. C3 means the dishwasher will not drain at all. C4 means the tub filled twice after a power failure, or the float switch is stuck. C5 flags a pump-out that finished too quickly. C6 means the water temperature is too low, and C7 flags the water-temperature sensor circuit itself. C8 means the detergent cup is blocked. PF is a power-failure reset, not a fault. Leak Detected or 999 means the Floor Protect system found water in the base pan. H2O flags low water, and PrS flags an invalid pressure-sensor reading. 1H is a delay-start indicator, not an error.
What to check, and when to call
Check the air gap, garbage disposer knockout, and drain hose for a kink or clog for C1-C3, and confirm the supply valve is open and water is reaching the tub for C6, C7, or H2O. A recurring C4 float fault, a Leak Detected/999 alert, or a C8 that persists after clearing the detergent cup needs an experienced, independent technician with the correct OEM or high-quality replacement part. See the dishwasher error codes page or the error codes library, then book dishwasher repair.
